December, 2008
Well, here it is almost 2009, and were just getting around to updating the site. It's been a really busy year.
Amanda and I got married on November 8th, then we went to Chicago the following week so I could play a gig
Amanda Abner and Ken Holbrook
at Trump Towers, with Art Mize and Nick Lawrence. I finished 2 major projects in the studio: one with my good friends the Blind Corn Liquor Pickers, click here for more on that project, and the other with Ronnie King. Ronnie is a really exceptional song writer from this region. Click here for info on Ronnie's project. Ronnie had some really great players and singers on his project; check out a short video clip of IBMA female vocalist of the year, Dale Ann Bradley, working on Ronnie's tunes. What a great person she is. We also did a couple of demos and a commercial along the way.

I also continued my long running series of gigs with the Keeneland Association; now in its seventh year. These have been really fun jobs to play on over the last few years, and I have huge respect for the people that work there and treat us with such kindness. I was also lucky enough to have been featured in both their commercials in 2008; don't blink or you might miss me.
It was amazing how much response we got from these ads; I guess some people do watch tv.
We also wanted to mention the two concerts we played with Dr. Tim Lake and bassist Kevin Kerhberg in October at the Niles Center for Traditional Music and the Central Library. Those were really fun.
People often ask me where I'm playing at, and in the past I didn't think I was playing out enough to warrant a calendar. This last year, I played over sixty gigs, in various groups. That's a lot when you are teaching 60+ students on a regular basis. So, I decided to add the calendar to the left so everyone could see I hadn't slipped into a state of flux. With my luck I probably won't play any this year. Nah! That will never happen.
